In the fourth season Trsteno Arboretum was again used as the setting of the Red Keep palace gardens. New filming locations in Croatia include Gradac Park (Purple Wedding feast) and Belvedere Atrium (fight between Oberyn and The Mountain) in Dubrovnik, Diocletian's Palace in Split (catacombs where is Daenerys locks her dragons) and Klis Fortress (the Meereen exteriors) north of Split.
SPOILER ALERT!Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 1 - Two Swords
Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) speaks with Prince Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal), the Red Viper of Dorne. Prince Oberyn reveals to Tyrion that he is in King's Landing to seek vengeance for the death of his sister, Elia Martell, and her two children. This scene is filmed close to the Ethnographic Museum Rupe in old town.
Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 1 - Two Swords
Shae (Sibel Kekilli) tries in vain to get Sansa (Sophie Turner) to eat. Sansa reveals to Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) that she cannot eat or sleep since hearing that her brother Robb's direwolf's head was sewn onto his corpse, and her mother Catelyn's throat was cut to the bone and her body thrown into the river.
Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 1 - Two Swords
Ser Dontos follows Sansa to the Red Keep's godswood, where he thanks her for saving his life during Joffrey's nameday celebration. As a gesture of his appreciation, he gives Sansa a necklace strung with seven amethysts.
Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 2 - The Lion and the Rose
After wedding ceremony, King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) is poisoned during the wedding feast. Joffrey's uncle Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is arrested for the murder.
Purple Wedding feast was filmed at Gradac Park, a Mediterranean-pine-filled parkland. This large public park is located next to the Old City of Dubrovnik, and is reached by climbing centuries-old steps. At the top there are excellent views of the Lovrijenac Fortress and Old City below.
Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 3 - Breaker of Chains
After the events of the Purple wedding, Sansa fleeing with Ser Dontos Hollard from King's Landing to a ship off the coast.
Sansa's escape scene was filmed on three separate locations. Escape of Sansa starts in Gradac Park, continues with narrow streets of the old town of Dubrovnik and ends at the coast of Trsteno Arboretum.
Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 4 - Oathkeeper
Lady Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg) told Margaery (Sophie Turner) to form bonds with new king Tommen and also suggested that she may have been involved in Joffrey's death in order to protect Margaery from Joffrey's brutal nature.
Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 5 - First of His Name
They discuss their children and Cersei (Lena Headey) asks Oberyn (Pedro Pascal) if will he deliver a gift to her daughter Myrcella and shows across the water to the ship. Oberyn promises he’ll have it sent to Sunspear for her.
Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 7 - Mockingbird
Ser Gregor Clegane also known as the Mountain is mercilessly killing prisoners with a great sword. Cersei Lannister approaches him and thanks him for his haste in returning to King's Landing as her champion for the trial by combat.
Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 8 - The Mountain and the Viper
The shocking season four finale, where Ser Gregor Clegane (The Mountain) kills Prince Oberyn Martell (The Red Viper) at Tyrion's trial by combat, is filmed just outside Dubrovnik at the abandoned Hotel Belvedere, which is located some 2 kilometers south of the Old town and is positioned on the steep beach. It was built in the eighties and destroyed during the Croatian War of Independence. Today the hotel is abandoned and demolished and it’s not allowed to enter the building, but the set is visible from outside.
